slang
SNAKE
In Dutch, the word “slang”, meaning “snake”, is used to describe certain tubes. In Dutch, you could say that your washing machine, car, and IV drip have a “snake.” And indeed, these tubes and pipes are very useful — both the rubber and plastic “snakes” and the Netherlands’ own snake, the Dutch adder. Some snakes will strangle you, some are poisonous, but here in the Netherlands, this reptile is too small to be dangerous. Wriggling and slithering through the sand, the earth, and even underwater, snakes are pretty much everywhere — and they’re more useful than you think.
